It just doesn't get old!

Thursday January 27th, 2022

Went out for an early morning bike ride again this morning, and again, it was great!  Got back just in time to catch the sun rising!  These beautiful mornings just don't get old!!  Munchie and I went out for our walk then home for coffee, muffins and a rousing game of Play Nine and dominoes.

We hit the beach for a couple of hours.  I had a snooze in the sun!  Our beach was not too crowded this morning....

This ended up being a 2 ride day for me.  I took another route into the interior a bit.  No unpaved roads this time, but some pretty quiet and scenic lanes!

So far I have found the local drivers I meet out there off the beaten path to quite courteous.  Haven't had any bad experiences yet!  I also do take precautions, lights front and back, helmet, knowledge that in a car vs bike, the bike always loses!

We spent the evening enjoying each other's company, playing our usual cards, yahtzee, dominoes, and of course Munchie whipped up a great evening meal.  I know some of my friends say that they can't really use my endorsement of the awesome meals Munchie prepares for me, because I love everything she makes, and no if she put dirt on a plate and served it to me, I wouldn't say it was great!  (I'd eat it, but I wouldn't like it!)

Another awesome day comes to and end!

Friday January 28th, 2022    Moving Day (again!)

We had fantastic news today, Nolan got a new job!  He is very excited about it and looking forward to the new challenges ahead!  So a hearty shout out to Nolan!  Way to go Buddy!

The previous move went so smoothly we didn't even begin packing until the morning.  We skipped our morning stroll, but still found time for a muffin, coffee and cards!

So we did our gypsy imitation and loaded up our belongings on a couple of luggage carts, then pushed them over to the hospitality suite for temporary storage until our new unit was ready.  Officially, check out is at 11am and check in is 4 pm.  On our first move, from E105 to A102, we got in by 1:30pm!  We went over to the pool area to wait for our new digs (H307 garden view) to become available.  They have a bunch of games there, ping pong, giant connect four, giant jenga and a whole slue of board games.  We had a game of scrabble.  (I won!)

Again the Pono Kai staff impressed, we were in to our new suite just after 1pm !  This suite has a loft with two king size beds and has been renovated.  No more carpet on the main floor, new furniture, new closet doors, new tiled shower and granite vanity top.  It's quite nice.

There was one minor hiccup with the move, Keko and Ilio had a bit of a rough go of it.  Somehow they were left behind and ended in the garbage!  I was able to rescue them and now poor little Ilio only has 3 legs!

We did meet up with the Coconut's gang and walked over for happy hour.

That's Munchie with Beth (in the middle) and Barbara.

Our new friends from Regina had to head back to Saskatchewan today and they passed on their unused groceries.  Thanks to Gerry and Cathy and their family!

Saturday January 29th, 2022       Lazy Morning!

Well I slept in this morning, so no early bike ride.  Enjoyed a wonderfully relaxing morning with my Bride!

I did go for a ride in the afternoon.  I took the route inland along the river where the horse and donkey live!  Brenda went to the pool to get some serious reading done!

We did take a walk over to Big Save for some odds and ends later, but otherwise, it was a pretty laid back and relaxing day!

We ended the day as per usual, sitting out on the lanai playing cards and soaking up the tranquillity, and while we were sitting there, we could hear violin music and it was really good!  At first we couldn't figure out where it was coming from, but then Munchie spotted the violinist playing over at the lobby.  We walked over to take it in, but arrived just as she was finishing.  The violinist, Kimberly Hope, said she usually comes and plays the lobby at the Pono Kai once a month and would be here again on February 12 at 4:30 to 5:30pm.  This young lady can play!  We are looking forward to the 12th!

Sunday January 30th, 2022

We got some exciting news this morning, two of our dear friends, Shannon and JT confirmed they were booked to come visit!  They will be here with us February 7 to February 17.  We are so looking forward to having them here to share our little adventure!

We went for an afternoon walk to Ross so Munchie could practice her favourite sport, shopping!  And the Ross sports arena did provide her with a good work out!  As she says, she scored big time, with her highlight being a Speedo swimsuit for $3.49!

On our way home, we popped into the Taps & Hops for their happy hour.  We ended up sitting at the bar and met Roger, the bar tender.  Great sense of humour and personality.  We also got the opportunity to meet Valerie from New York and had a great afternoon.

Now Munchie had a Long Island Ice Tea.  She said she hadn't had one in long while so was up for one!  This drink was huge!  And as this drink is made with vodka, rum, gin, tequila and triple sec with a splash of coke, it is quite potent!  She only had one, but did chase it with a Tito's on the rocks!

We also got to see some of the local wildlife checking the place out:

Introducing Garry the Gecko, unofficial mascot of the Taps & Hops, Kapaa, Kauai!

I did some crafting today as well.  We have been looking for some felt coasters and haven't had much success so far, so I picked up a green felt decorative bag and "converted" it into coasters!  So now we have some pineapple, palm tree and sunburst felt coasters!

Monday January 31, 2022        Perogy Day!

This was a busy day for Munchie!  We had invited Josh and Alayna over for a supper and so Munchie decided to whip up some perogies for them as they had never tried them before.  So she built 5 dozen!

Along with the perogies, she made awesome meatballs in a mushroom gravy and to add some colour, green beans!  For dessert, Munchie whipped up an apple pie!

Munchie said she did miss her Kitchen Aid mixer as she had to make the dough the old fashion way by hand!  And she also missed her pincher, Kirsten!

Josh and Alayna loved them!  We had a great evening and Josh and Alayna went home with left over pie and 2 1/2 dozen frozen perogies.  I told them I like the perogies even better the next day fried for breakfast!

Munchie and I were just talking about what a wonderful couple Josh and Alayna are and how down to earth and well grounded they are.  We really appreciate them just spending time with a couple of old farts!  I also am so excited about the prospect of being able to enjoy a little Kauai Peanut!  I predict a girl, 7lbs 4 ounces, 20 inches long, arriving at 7:55am on the due date!

To be continued.........🌞
